As a rising alt-pop artist, Baby Queen has already done a few great things that not every artist gets to do in their lifetime. Her single “Colours of You” was featured in Netflix’s Heartstopper, which has featured music by some of the most compelling and coveted alternative artists in the scene. In 2023, Baby Queen then released her debut album, Quarter Life Crisis, a project that went on to receive high acclaim from publications like The Guardian and Ones to Watch. She has also gone on tour with Olivia Rodrigo and Conan Gray, for instance, solidifying her as an artist not only of the moment but of a generation. After some time away, Baby Queen is ready to continue her reign with a new single “I Hope You Don’t Remember Me.”
“I Hope You Don’t Remember Me,” is springtime and sunshine in music form. It has a folksy and warm feel with melodic riffs and Baby Queen’s lush dream-pop vocals. All the while, she imparts words of comfort and care with lines like, “I truly hope wherever you go, the sun will shine” and “May the arms of fortune open up for you / May you be ready when they do.” But then, a club vibe sets in when we arrive at the choruses, giving us more of a cooler sound. Here, Baby Queen sings, “I hope you don’t remember me,” determined to wipe the slate clean.
Telling us more about “I Hope You Don’t Remember Me,” Baby Queen explains it is
“about the urge to revoke my memory from somebody else’s mind after perceived rejection (partly in defiance and partly out of shame) and have them be erased from my own in return. Whilst writing it, I was still trying to convince myself of what I was saying. I think a lot of the emotion comes from the fact that a big part of me didn’t want to be forgotten, and knew I wouldn’t forget.”
