Awaken I Am finds strength in vulnerability on “Vacant”

Date:

Awaken I Am released a haunting new single entitled “Vacant” earlier this week. This new single follows the release of “Relic” and “Turn to Stone” earlier this year. Formed in 2011 Awaken I Am has been crafting their blend of emotional melodic post-hardcore music for over a decade, but tragedy deeply shaped their later sound. Following the loss of guitarist Connor Verner-Oakley, their music took on a new level of emotional depth, something that’s especially clear in this new single.

Vacant is a haunting, beautifully layered track that deals with grief and emptiness. Jimmy Alexander’s vocals are raw yet controlled, floating over dreamy guitars and steady rhythms. The song feels cathartic and honest, showing the band’s growth from their earlier, heavier material to something more melodic and atmospheric.

Fans of bands like Hands Like Houses, Emarosa, and Rain City will find a lot to love in this band. Vacant is a powerful reminder of Awaken I Am’s ability to turn pain into something genuinely moving.
