Avery Lynch finds freedom on “Lasting Effects”

Date:

There will always be someone out there who seems happy on the outside but listens to sad songs on the inside. If this describes you, then you may already be familiar with Avery Lynch. The singer and songwriter is often described as a “happy girl filled with sad songs,” and her music rings true to that description. Her recent singles like “the boys who don’t know what they want,” “Think About It,” and “Dead to Me” have all touched on heartbreak, yet she manages to convey a sense of strength through it all. Her duality keeps her fanbase coming back for more, which is why Avery now has over 400M streams overall. You could even say that she has made “Lasting Effects” on her audience, as observed on her new single.

With “Lasting Effects,” Avery finds freedom after a breakup. Throughout the single, she relives the things that were said between her and the ex over the course of their relationship. Guided by light acoustic guitar and gentle percussion, she shares the ways she felt confined. It all brings her to realize, “I found out / That I like my voice from my own mouth / And I kinda hate the way yours sounds / And you thought that you left me wrecked / But these were your lasting effects.” In the end, she can take back those parts of herself that did not feel right with him around, and she can take that newfound ownership with her into the next relationship.

About the way that “Lasting Effects” was influenced by a breakup, Avery explains,

“At the time, I knew he was wrong. But as I got further from the situation, I realized he was right—but not in the way he thought. I realized I don’t ever want someone like him, and I don’t want to be loved like that.

By channeling this into the single, Avery wants others to feel inspired. She shares,

“I think it’s a really positive and hopeful song. I hope it inspires people and leaves a positive lasting effect.”
