When it comes to expression, rising country artists Antonio Larosa and Taylor-Rae know what to do. Antonio, for instance, fuses rhythmic, gritty, and soulful melodies with raw and heartfelt storytelling in his songs to create memorable and extraordinary moments. This results in singles like “Tried & True” and “Turn Me Loose,” which have resonated with his loyal and growing fanbase. Taylor-Rae, meanwhile, continues to make waves with stirring singles like “Are You Still Up” and “I Can’t,” both of which showcase her dynamic spirit and infectious personality. The former reached a milestone back in March, surpassing 1.5M streams, while “I Can’t” garnered over 100K streams in its first month. Together, Antonio and Taylor-Rae can make anyone feel something more, and they do exactly that on “Hearts Don’t Break.”
Co-written with award-winning songwriter David Borys, “Hearts Don’t Break” is a slow-burning ballad that brings together the classic storytelling and moving melodies heard in Antonio and Taylor-Rae’s music. The track pinpoints a breaking point in a relationship, with both artists sharing their side of this story. With impassioned vocals, they sing, “We can’t call this love / Baby, look what’s left of us,” and realize, “Yeah, we’re lying in this bed we both made / Hanging on like hearts don’t break.” All the while, there is a cinematic component to the song with its tender guitar lines, soaring vocal styles, and prominent downbeats, elevating the emotion of the track within.
About the collaboration, Antonio shares,
“I’ve always admired Taylor-Rae’s voice because it has the kind of power and emotion that makes a ballad soar. The song is about two people who both know the love is gone but they are still hanging on, stuck in something that is no longer real love. It captures that painful space between holding on and letting go. When we played it live on tour, the reaction was incredible, so we knew we had to record it.”
Taylor-Rae adds,
“‘Hearts Don’t Break’ is a song that digs into wanting to make a relationship work and hanging onto it, to the point where you’re just hurting each other. Sometimes, something isn’t the right fit, even though you might wish it was. I was so excited to team up with Antonio on this track because of how incredible of a vocalist and storyteller he is. This song came together really organically in the writing room with Antonio, David, and myself, and I feel super lucky to be a part of it.”
