Beatles star Paul McCartney has officially announced his new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane.
Known as a veteran and pioneer in the music business, McCartney has helped establish the classic rock we hear and love today.
Adding to his discography of over 26 projects to date (with The Boys of Dungeon Lane being his 19th studio album), McCartney has noted that this album will be his most vulnerable – paying homage to his childhood, adolescence and early friendships with bandmates George Harrison and John Lennon.
With the first leading single, “Days We Left Behind” making waves as a sentimental track that gives fans a glimpse of his Liverpool upbringing, McCartney further explains in a statement:
“This is very much a memory song for me. The album title, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? It’s just a lot of memories of Liverpool. It involves a bit in the middle about John and Forthlin Road which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class. We didn’t have much at all but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much.”
With the lyric video curating over 942,000 views since last week’s release, fans are elated to enter Paul McCartney’s creative world again, bringing in solemn, earnest vocals that listeners know and love.
The news comes a week after headlining Apple’s exclusive concert celebrating their 50th anniversary in Cupertino, Calif., Tuesday night. Performing legendary songs such as “Hey Jude” (1968) and “Love Me Do” (1963), McCartney not only gave fans a concert to remember, but also the anticipatory excitement of his upcoming project.
The Boys of Dungeon Lane is set to release on May 29th.
