The Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean has been working on a solo album for the last four years, and it’s almost ready to be heard by fans.
McLean visited the Jennifer Hudson Show to talk about the Backstreet Boys’ Sphere residency in Vegas, in addition to his soon-to-be-released solo project. He shared that the Hi, My Name is Alex EP will be released on Nov. 27, taking advantage of the Thanksgiving holiday and sharing that, “because in my mind, I’m so thankful and grateful for fans that have waited so patiently for this.”
The EP is a precursor to a larger project Hi, My Name is Alexander James, set to be released on Jan. 9, AJ’s birthday. With each release date holding such significance, McLean shares,
“I’m giving a gift to the fans and to myself. I’m really passionate about it, I’m proud of it. It’s been an incredible journey finding my way… outside of Backstreet Boys. This kind of journey of self-discovery and really finding my true happiness.”
While speaking with Hudson, McLean noted that he just celebrated four years of sobriety, a feat that shows clearly through his upcoming solo projects. He further shares with Hudson his experience attending a mental health retreat two years ago, where he began to realize that “AJ” is a character in The Backstreet Boys, and that character doesn’t dictate who Alex is: “I want the world to get to know Alex.”
