At 92 years old, Willie Nelson shows no signs of slowing down. On the heels of his 79th solo studio album, Dream Chaser, arriving at the end of May, he has announced a short run of shows with support from Drayton Farley, concluding with his annual Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic in Austin, TX.
Kicking off at the end of April in Birmingham, AL, Willie and his band will spend a week and a half touring the Southern states before meeting up with acts such as Billy Strings, Wilco, Sheryl Crow, and Margo Price for the Fourth of July holiday.
Additional tour dates are likely on the horizon, as Nelson will also play a homecoming concert on May 14 for his alma mater, Baylor University, over 70 years after his attendance. The show was announced yesterday, and tickets go on sale Friday, April 10, here. Tickets to all other shows can be purchased here.
As a celebrated musician of over 60 years, Nelson holds a record-breaking discography of over 150 total albums including collaborative and live releases. On Dream Chaser, he collaborates with none other than Bob Dylan for “I Can’t Read Your Mind.” When asked to describe Nelson, Dylan said the following:
“Personally speaking I’ve always known him to be kind, generous, tolerant and understanding of human feebleness, a benefactor, a father and a friend. He’s like the invisible air. He’s high and low. He’s in harmony with nature. And that’s what makes him Willie.”
