Streetlight Manifesto came through the Pacific Northwest this past weekend, performing at Roseland Theater in Downtown Portland. The night opened with LA rockers, Sweet Gloom, who powered through a fun and energetic set. Led by a front man who moved all over while lifting the stands over his head, they helped prepare the crowd for the enigmatic and legendary headliner.

Streetlight Manifesto took the stage while Mötley Crüe’s “Kickstart My Heart” blared over the speakers, launching into a brief instrumental intro before opening the show with fan favorite, “Watch It Crash” from their 2007 release, Somewhere In The Between. The crowd was ecstatic, singing along from the very first lyrics. That excitement only grew when the band moved right into, “Enormous,” a new track recently released on YouTube and part of their upcoming album, A Place Behind The Stars, set for a fall release. Attendees would get to hear two more new songs, “Imagine This” and “Everything To Everyone,” both of which are also available exclusively on YouTube.

Roseland was at capacity, but that didn’t stop attendees from getting rowdier and rowdier throughout the night. From the moment “Dear Sergio” (a nod to their Catch 22 roots) hit, the energy never dipped. The band played career staples like “We Will Fall Together,” “A Better Place, A Better Time,” and “The Three of Us,” and even pulled out a thrilling medley of “Point / Keasbey Nights / Counterpoint” that sent longtime fans into a frenzy.

As the set drew to a close, the crowd erupted for the back-to-back performance of “A Moment of Silence” and “A Moment of Violence,” followed by two Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution cuts of “Intro: This Is a Call to Arms” and “Here’s to Life.” The encore delivered in full, with “The Hands That Thieve” and the anthemic “Somewhere in the Between” closing the night on a euphoric note.

There are few bands as tight and dialed as Streetlight Manifesto, effortlessly weaving through genre-bending arrangements, intricate and challenging rhythm sections, and an unforgettable horn ensemble. If Streetlight Manifesto or Sweet Gloom are coming to your town anytime soon, it will be a show you won’t forget. This crowd certainly won’t forget it anytime soon. What a night.
