With the popularity of his latest albums, Mac DeMarco instantly filled Webster Hall in New York City moments after opening ticket sales.
The Canadian singer-songwriter performed on a highly decorated stage, equipped with a plastic, green, life size horse statue, numerous flower pots growing real plants, a fake automated rattlesnake, and a collection of other trinkets brought from his bandmate’s home in New Jersey. The maximalist set design helped DeMarco to create the atmosphere he wanted – as if he were just playing in his friend’s living room with his bandmates and a couple hundred of his closest friends.
DeMarco instantly set this scene by playing the entirety of one of his newly released album, Five Easy Hot Dogs, housing 14 different instrumental tracks he produced while on a road trip from Los Angeles to New York City. Each song is named after the location they were recorded in, creating a musical diary of his road trip.
After finishing the album, DeMarco moved on to other popular songs that the audience enthusiastically sang along. He continuously quipped with the audience in between songs, even expressing the possibility of a few of them finding him out in the lower east side after the concert.
