Venezuelan funk band Los Amigos Invisibles stopped by a packed Brighton Music Hall in Boston as part of their Wiki Wiki Tour, on a Sunday evening that was set to feel like a neverending Friday night party.
Fans arrived early and were greeted by an extended music set, giving the largely hispanic crowd a chance to reconnect and dance before the band took the stage. Los Amigos kicked off with a banger, as “El Disco Anal” surprised the audience. Usually sitting towards the end of the set, the classic track would set the pace of the show, as the band jumped back and forth from all time classic, to new fan favorites, including their latest single “Wiki Wiki”. Charismatic frontman Julio Briceño would interact frequently with fans, exchanging jokes and gratitude in equal measure. Despite the strong latino presence, the singer made sure to briefly address the many english-speaking fans in attendance, a testament of the global nature of the venezuelan group’s success.
From “Ponerte en Cuatro” to Jorge Spiteri’s “Amor”, Los Amigos Invisibles made sure the entire room was jumping and dancing constantly, with their unique blend of latin rhythms, cheeky lyrics and filthy funk bass lines. They would also incorporate some of their own musical influences as soundbites in between songs, such as Prince, Chic and even Harry Styles. The energy was at its peak when classic hits “Cuchi-Cuchi” and “Esto Es Lo Que Hay” saw the band wrap up the set, only to return for an encore with the infectious “El Baile Del Sobón”, bringing the party to a close. A staple in the hispanic community, Los Amigos Invisibles will always ensure everyone in the room has had the time of their lives.
