INTERVIEW: Bonnie X Clyde @ Shaky Beats 2018

Date:

Virginia based EDM duo Bonnie X Clyde is an up and coming duo that you can’t afford to miss. They recently performed at Shaky Beats Festival in Atlanta and we were able to catch them for an interview:

Melodic (Andrew): How did Bonnie x Clyde start?
Daniel: Bonnie X Clyde started in spring 2015 when we were both graduating college. We spent a year on Skype just writing music but none of that music was released through Bonnie X Clyde. Then we moved to Miami for a month and made Rise Above and that helped us find our current manager and everything else fell into place.
Paige: But before that, we spent our last year going to two different colleges, myself at Virginia and he at Florida. And our entire senior year we were on Skype, making music. We had this program that allowed us to be on each other’s computers and it was pretty wild. We didn’t foresee any of this and we just thought that we would try our best and things just started happening when we went for it.

Melodic (Andrew): What inspired the name Bonnie X Clyde?
Daniel: The name was inspired by the way we thought people would react to it.
Paige: Also at the time, we were looking for names; especially guy/girl duo names because there weren’t too many in the industry. And as soon as we saw Bonnie and Clyde on every duo list, we knew we had to run with it.

Melodic (Andrew): Going back to your roots, what urged you to start playing music?
Paige: Personally, I was a singer and I always saw myself as one. And later I realized how much energy these festivals and concerts had and I knew how much energy I had and I just thought to myself, I can see myself up there. And he had been a DJ his whole life so when we started making music together, it was crazy how well we had meshed together.

Melodic (Andrew): Who are some of your inspirations for your music?
Paige: Probably my biggest one right now for vocals would be Billie Eilish and for production probably Whethan.
Daniel: Probably a cross between San Holo and G Jones.

Melodic (Andrew): What are some of your favorite songs right now?
Paige: Be Like You – Whethan, Body – Loud Luxury
Daniel: Mine – Bazzi

Melodic (Andrew): What’s your favorite place to perform?
Paige: Any place that has good audio and a solid stage where we can go out and interact with the crowd.

Melodic (Andrew): Weirdest concert moment?
Paige: We were playing in Orlando and throwing water bottles out to people. Then Daniel throws one and knocks a girl out with a water bottle! She later came back to a festival after the incident with a sign that said “No Water Bottle Throwing”.

Melodic (Andrew): What should we expect from your EP that is dropping soon?
Daniel: A little bit of everything and makes you want to “go for it”.
Paige: People should expect us to show a softer side of us because most of the stuff we’ve released before has been more pop EDM but hopefully this shows how we’ve matured and grown as a brand.

Melodic (Andrew): And lastly, Chipotle or Moes?
Paige: Chipotle all day!
Daniel: Chipotle always.
