K-pop girl group TWICE released their latest project, This Is For, nearly 10 years after their debut. Since their formation, TWICE has built a reputation as one of the biggest girl groups in South Korea. Over the years, they’ve topped international charts and captured the hearts of fans around the world.
TWICE was formed in 2015 through the JYP Entertainment survival show Sixteen and debuted with the EP The Story Begins, led by the single “Cheer Up.” The nine-member group includes Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu.
With a decade of experience behind them, the group’s spark hasn’t faded. Fans have taken notice of their consistency, as TWICE continues to showcase their signature sound and style while evolving alongside trends in the global music industry.
This Is For is the group’s ninth studio project and fourth full-length album, following their Japanese release Dive and numerous mini-albums and EPs.
The new project includes 11 all-English tracks and features a deluxe version with an extended mix of the title track, “THIS IS FOR,” and an additional song, “TAKEDOWN.” The latter features Jihyo, Chaeyoung and Jeongyeon and appears on the soundtrack of the Netflix series, K-Pop Demon Hunters.
The album’s title track, “THIS IS FOR,” sets the tone for the songs that follow. It’s a funky, upbeat pop anthem that empowers women who have experienced heartbreak or rejection. The lyrics deliver a message of resilience and confidence: “This is for all my ladies / Who don’t get hyped enough (Hey, ladies) / If you’ve been done wrong / Then this your song, so turn it up.”
The track “MARS” is a standout example of TWICE blending their original style with current trends. The synth- and bass-heavy production backs soaring vocals and thoughtful lyrics that ask listeners if they’ve ever felt out of place. The song reassures fans that feeling different is what makes them special, and that someone out there will appreciate them just as they are.
TWICE is also known for its powerful subunits. With nine members, smaller groupings allow individual talents to shine. The group showcases five subunit songs on This Is For, each with a distinct sound and personality.
“BATTITUDE,” performed by Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo and Mina, is a punchy, electric anthem with blaring horns and 808 bass. The sassy, confident track urges listeners to channel their inner “baddie” with unapologetic confidence.
“DAT AHH DAT OHH” features Sana, Jihyo, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu and taps into early 2000s Y2K vibes. The song is a groovy, Destiny’s Child- or TLC-inspired rap-pop track, blending catchy verses with a smooth vocal bridge from Jihyo: “Cause I got that ah, got that ooh / Every time I step up in the room (Ooh, ahh) / They say, ‘Ah, can’t nobody do it like you’ / Ooh, better take notes.”
Another standout is “TALK,” an R&B-style duet by vocalists Nayeon and Jihyo. The track channels early Tinashe and Ariana Grande, with mellow percussion, a soft bassline, and a sultry late-night feel. The lyrics explore emotional vulnerability and a desire for communication in a relationship, a call to talk instead of shutting down.
This Is For is TWICE’s declaration that they’ve earned their place at the top and don’t plan on slowing down. With each release, their sound continues to evolve while honoring the identity they’ve built over nearly a decade.
The group has announced the first leg of their world tour in support of the album, with more dates to be revealed soon.
They are also slated to perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago on Aug. 2.
