Noah Cyrus returns with a brutally honest body of work in I WANT MY LOVED ONES TO GO WITH ME. With this record, it feels like Cyrus has finally settled into a sound that feels authentically her—weathered storytelling with hints of Americana, folk, and indie influences. While some of the biggest names in music make appearances on this record, including Blake Shelton, Ella Langley, and Fleet Foxes, it’s Cyrus’s voice that ties it all together.

I WANT MY LOVED ONES TO GO WITH ME allows Cyrus to step fully into her own identity in a way that we haven’t seen from her before. The GRAMMY nominated singer has spent a huge part of her life in the shadow of a famous last name, growing up in a world that only saw her as the daughter of Billy Ray and sister of Miley [Cyrus], but this record makes a clear statement that she is more than her last name. Still, she carries a deep pride in where she comes from, honoring that legacy with “Apple Tree,” a hymn that was written by her Pappy, Ron Cyrus. “I am so grateful to come from a lineage where music runs through our veins and connects us back to our ancestors and back to who we are,” she shares.

The 25 year old has a gift for lyricism, and one of the best on the album also happens to be the most heartbreaking. “What’s It All For?” touches on the weight of family trauma, a reality that many quietly carry: “Why have a family if that ain’t what you want? / Why have a child you don’t know how to love? / I’ve asked all of these questions and I still got more / Oh, if that’s all there is, then what’s it all for?”

“Man In The Field” is another lyrically rich track that represents the haunting thoughts that creep in during the night and won’t let you rest. It captures the reality of losing someone who’s still alive but no longer the same. Lyrics like, “There’s a man in the field and I’ve seen him cry / I’ve lost count of the times that I’ve told him goodbye,” unravel the sorrow of watching someone fade right before your eyes, whether it’s through addiction, illness, or emotional distance. There is no closure on this kind of grief and it serves as a reminder that not all losses come from death.

As Cyrus steps into this new era, she reaches new heights by collaborating with country music royalty Blake Shelton on “New Country.” When the single was released in June, Cyrus took to Instagram to share, “God told me that Blake was the one I was supposed to tell this message and sing with. I followed that prophecy and intuition and stopped at nothing but to get in touch with him. God did his thing and here we are.” The track explores embracing change and standing on your own two feet.

Cyrus has one of those voices that could sound like magic alongside just about anyone, but her collaboration with Ella Langley on “Way Of The World” stands out as one of the strongest pairings to come out of 2025 so far. Their voices almost blend together to create effortless harmonies, almost as if they were always meant to sing together. The song reflects on growing up and coming to terms with life’s quiet truths, like realizing your parents are human too and are doing the best they can: “As you’re growing’ up, you get faced with the truth / That your parents are people and messed up like you / And the child inside them is broken and still hurtin’ too.”
