Parker McCollum taps into the kind of songwriting that made country music fans fall in love with him in the first place on his fifth studio album, Parker McCollum. He confidently signs his name to a body of work that blends country charm with Americana and blues, showcasing his artistic evolution while staying true to his roots. This record feels like a more polished and deeply personal version of his debut album, The Limestone Kid. In an interview with Apple Music, McCollum shared that, “This record that we made in New York is the record I always wondered if I was good enough to make.” Well, Parker, consider those doubts put to rest. You’ve more than exceeded our expectations.

“This is the best I got. Hope ya’ll love it as much as I do.” – Parker McCollum

The Conroe, Texas native signed with Universal Music Group in 2019 and has since released Gold Chain Cowboy and Never Enough. McCollum has been widely recognized by the country music community, earning a platinum certification for “Pretty Heart,” the breakout single from Gold Chain Cowboy. He proved himself a promising talent by winning the ACM Award for New Male Artist of the Year in 2022. So, who exactly is Parker McCollum?

Instead of chasing perfection, McCollum embraced his imperfections on this record, resulting in a sound that feels refreshingly real. This is as authentic as it gets—raw, honest and vulnerable, especially on tracks like “Hope That I’m Enough” and “My Worst Enemy.” It wouldn’t be a Parker McCollum album without a token of appreciation for his wife, Hallie Ray. With an acoustic guitar and smooth vocals, “Hope That I’m Enough” is born. McCollum addresses his insecurities about being worthy and living up to the standard of being a good husband: “Well, I can feel you breathing / Good mornin’, my dear / I hope that when you’re dreamin’ / It’s me in a hundred years / I hope I’m still the one you love / ‘Cause every time you kiss me / You take away my empty.”

“My Worst Enemy” is a ballad that explores self-doubt and internal struggles. The song offers a glimpse of McCollum coming face-to-face with himself. Sometimes your worst enemy is the person looking back at you in the mirror. He sings, “Mirror, mirror, could it be any clearer? / Is there someone that I’m supposed to see? / Ride or die, been this way my whole life / Guess it’s all that I’m ever gonna be / My worst enemy.”

Several years ago, McCollum had a concept for a song, but couldn’t quite nail down a melody. After working with songwriters Natalie Hemby and Jeremy Spillman, McCollum knew he had a hit on his hands with “What Kinda Man.” The single was released in September 2024, the first taste of what was to come from Parker McCollum. It is accompanied by a music video that perfectly embodies the album’s theme. At the start, someone turns to McCollum and says, “Welcome back, Kid,” to which he replies, “Yea, something like that, hinting at a reintroduction to the country singer known as Parker McCollum.
