Forget everything you know about the modern alternative rock sphere and direct your attention to Houston-born, Los Angeles-based trailblazer DE’WAYNE. The singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer has unleashed a personal reckoning and creative transformation with his stunning new album june, released via Fearless Records.

Described as an epic rock love album that oozes soul, sex and style while exploring divine femininity and the duality of humanity, DE’WAYNE is at his most authentic and confident as an artist and human with this project. The record is a stellar genre-defying redefinition of his sound that draws inspiration from the likes of David Bowie, Lenny Kravitz, Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye and more that still loudly and unashamedly screams “DE’WAYNE.”

“Lady Lady” takes the listener by the hand and pulls them full force into the chaotic, enticing energy surrounding june. DE’WAYNE sets the tone for what’s to come on this record with the first track’s electrifying guitar riffs, punchy rhythm and rich vocals. The title track follows directly after this infectious opener, and further explores the persona of “june” through this ’80s-inspired love-drunk anthem.

“I’ll be there” is a smooth, soulful track that lets the funk influences take the spotlight while telling a tale of unconditional love and support. The song is also home to an exhilarating guitar solo that acts as the cherry on top of this groovy effort. “Take a picture” swoops in with a hypnotic confidence that continues to showcase the funk-influenced route DE’WAYNE went down for this record.

The album’s first single, “highway robbery,” served as the first invitation into the musical soundscape of june. DE’WAYNE explores complete and utter devotion over an explosively cinematic production that’s laced with the grit of classic rock and soaring harmonies. Similarly, he dissects the feeling of an undeniable romance on “biological.” The track is another bold, high-energy rock anthem that explores a natural romance that’s positively overwhelming and intense.

Deemed as one of the most vulnerable pieces off the record, “sundays” details DE’WAYNE’s tumultuous yet strong relationship with his father. The emotion in DE’WAYNE’s voice is striking as he expresses, “I close my eyes and I start to think / If it wasn’t for you, don’t know who I would be.” The synth-driven ballad is a beautifully raw moment on june that showcases his growth, both personally and creatively.

“Forever” is a groovy blend of funk and alternative rock that features longtime friend and collaborator I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME. The soaring bassline and addictive vocals from DE’WAYNE and Dallon Weekes make this track an infectious standout on june that makes you want to get up and move. The next track, “prize fight,” is another standout from the record that features a relentless, magnetic instrumental driven by pulsing drums and punchy guitars behind DE’WAYNE’s soulful vocal delivery.

“What does he really know” is another synth-heavy track, this time reflecting on DE’WAYNE’s younger self with softness and sincerity. The song starts mellow with a steady upbeat tone before the chorus explodes with blistering guitar riffs and passionate vocals. “What does he really know” unfolds as the telling of his creative journey and all of the hard work it’s taken to get to this point in his career. It triggers a bone-chilling response as DE’WAYNE cries, “don’t you forget who you are.”

DE’WAYNE wraps up the world of june with the ultimate celebration of love, joy and rock n’ roll on “love raider.” This track is a fast-paced funk-infused freefall that details the intoxicating nature of the persona created around june. It’s an addictive, vibrant anthem that serves as an impeccable closer to this dazzling record.

With a complete redefinition of his sound and artistry, DE’WAYNE brings together elements of punk, R&B, alternative, funk and more for a magical genre-defying full-length record. Created in collaboration with Dylan Bauld (formerly flor) and Brandon Colbein, june is a record that is beautifully authentic and cannot be replicated. DE’WAYNE has established himself as one of the most exciting rising stars in the alternative scene with this release and the bold, unapologetic honesty found within it.

DE’WAYNE will be hitting the road to support Duckwrth on select dates of the All American Freak Show Tour this fall. Tickets and information for these upcoming shows can be found here.
