Aerosmith‘s charisma crashes with YUNGBLUD‘s wild energy on One More Time, creating something both timeless and delightfully chaotic. Classic rock ‘n’ roll is SO back. Nevertheless, I wish Steven Tyler hadn’t covered up his rough-around-the-edges rasp with so much production and auto-tune. That would’ve made the EP even more flawless.
2025 has already been massive for YUNGBLUD, having received the torch from late rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, and now collaborating with Aerosmith. For Aerosmith, One More Time signifies their first new release in 12 years, so this collaboration could be a victory lap for the renowned rock group. Only a few months prior, the artists came together to pay homage to Osbourne at the VMAs. Not long after, they dropped the news about their joint EP and the debut single “My Only Angel.”
“My Only Angel” is destined to go down in rock history as the song that bridges the gap between generations. It pairs one of the genre’s most beloved bands with one of its newest and most promising voices, capturing the essence of rock in this new era we’ve stepped into over the past few years. It’s as catchy as it gets, elevated by Joe Perry’s otherworldly guitar work. If “Problems” had dropped 13 years earlier, you can bet Diego Boneta would’ve been tearing into it in Rock of Ages. It’s a big, dramatic, over-the-top anthem that finds escape in connection, just like those larger-than-life 80s rock hits.
Dark romanticism comes in full swing on the smoldering ballad “A Thousand Days” before the EP comes to a close with a reimagined take on Aerosmith’s Rocks classic “Back In the Saddle.” You can’t really replace a track like that, but you can breathe new life into it. And that’s exactly what they did.
One thing is for certain: this EP brings together one of my all-time favorite artists and one of my dad’s, giving us something we can both rock out to on those long car rides, and I’m sure plenty of others feel the same way.
