Montreal’s vibrant music scene saw a delightful addition this past week as Peach Pit, the beloved indie-rock band from Vancouver, took to the stage for an unforgettable show at the MTelus. The atmosphere was electric from the moment the doors opened, with a line of eager fans winding around the block, anticipation building for a night of catchy melodies and introspective lyrics.
The band kicked things off with “Magpie,” the opening track from their latest album, setting the tone with a mix of upbeat energy and soulful, laid-back vibes. The crowd instantly connected with the smooth guitar riffs and catchy hooks that are signature to Peach Pit’s style. Lead vocalist Neil Smith’s voice was as raw and emotive as ever, striking a perfect balance between intimate and powerful.
The setlist was a perfect blend of old favorites and newer hits. “Alrighty Aphrodite” and “Shampoo Bottles”, both fan favorites from earlier albums, had the crowd singing along with infectious enthusiasm. But it was the performance of “Look Out!” from their 2025 release that truly stole the show. The track is a sonic evolution for the band, with a more polished production that still maintains their indie roots. The live rendition brought a new layer of intensity that reverberated through the room, leaving the crowd in awe.
The instrumental section was tight and vibrant. Guitarist Christopher Vanderkooy, along with bassist Peter Wilton and drummer Mikey Pascuzzi, all showcased their exceptional skills, each taking turns to shine in moments of extended solos and breakdowns. The chemistry between the members was palpable, and it translated into a near-telepathic connection with the audience.
As the night neared its end, Peach Pit returned for an encore with a stripped-down version of “Peach Pit” and their hit “Tommy’s Party”, the crowd’s energy reaching a fever pitch. It was a beautiful moment of intimacy, and the perfect way to wrap up a night of fantastic live music.
Peach Pit’s Montreal show was a testament to the band’s growth, both musically and in terms of their connection with fans. With every album and every tour, they continue to evolve while staying true to what makes them special: their ability to craft melodies that are both heartwarming and bittersweet, alongside a live performance that’s equally electrifying and intimate. If you missed them this time, make sure to catch them the next round—their live shows are an experience you won’t want to miss.
