Maddie Regent announces debut album, releases “The wolf”

Date:

After the successful release of “You could break my heart” and “Sleeptalking” last year, Maddie Regent is on track to send her debut album out into the world this year. The album, On the phone with my mom, has been described by the press as a “deeply personal and sonically vibrant project,” which we have already heard through her previous singles. Whether it’s Maddie’s honest lyrics or escapist sound, fans will be able to fully indulge in the project, which is expected to arrive May 16. Today, Maddie drops “The wolf” from the album, further propelling her into what is sure to be a stunning 2025.

Despite its ferocious title, “The wolf” is an inviting slice of synth-pop. With her go-to team of Cade Hoppe, who co-wrote and produced the track, and Harper James, who provided additional production, Maddie touches on an estranged relationship. Over the house beats and perky synth riffs, she sings about what it is like to be haunted by an ex, turning simple encounters into emotional experiences. With vibrant pop vocals, she admits, “I don’t wanna be afraid of you / I don’t wanna play this game with you” and “It’s like you’re in my head, but we don’t speak / I just wanna lose it.”

About “The wolf,” Maddie has described it as an overwhelming mix of anxiety and fear that naturally arises when you run into an estranged ex. She mentions,

There’s a part of you that’s paralyzingly afraid of them, but you wish you didn’t have to be.”

You can listen to “The wolf” here.

On the phone with my mom is set to be released May 16.
