Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler bring color to life with new album ‘brent iii’ and single “black & white”

Date:

Singer-songwriters and frequent collaborators Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler have announced their highly anticipated joint album, brent iii, set for release on Nov. 1 through CC Ventures, LLC, Republic. This marks their third collaboration, following the successful brent (2019) and brent ii (2021) EPs, and their first project together in three years. The album’s lead single, “black & white,” sets the tone for the forthcoming release.

A heartfelt love song exploring emotional connection and healing, in “black & white,” Zucker and Cutler try to find the comfort and security found in a relationship, even when life feels stark and difficult. In the first verse, Cutler opens up about feeling unwell and struggling to feel like herself, saying that only the person she loves comes close to providing such comfort (“Haven’t been doin’ well / Nothin’ makes me feel like myself / Nothin’ comes as close as you do”). The pre-chorus is then a reminder of how love has the power to transform, opening up this world of emotions for both Zucker and Cutler.

Love can often be a display of difficulty, hardship and heart-wrenching pain, but Zucker’s presence brings color and vibrancy to a life that may otherwise feel “black and white”. Together, they sing, “Whisper sweet words in my ear when it hurts / Help the time move slower, let me have tonight / ‘Cause you put color in my black and white,” capturing the idea that love can bring hope and light in the midst of personal struggles.

Following previous hits like “this is how you fall in love” and “you were good to me”, Zucker and Cutler continue to showcase their chemistry and ability to find calm in the middle of life’s storms. Ahead of the song’s release, Zucker shared on Instagram, “‘brent iii: the album’ is yours on november 1. when we sat down to write together again, songs just kept pouring out of us, and we knew we needed to give you everything we had. black & white out at midnight <3.”
