English Teacher instore shows for remarkable debut album ‘This Could Be Texas’

Date:

The highly anticipated debut album from English Teacher, a young and exciting UK post-punk quartet, released this week. This Could Be Texas lives up to the hype with 13 songs full of ambition, variety and originality. Nine instore dates at UK record stores in the release week precedes their own UK tour and then support to Idles tour across North America. We caught the instore show at Vinilo Record Store in Southampton, UK.

The nine song set, all from the new album, included the singles “Nearly Daffodils” and “The World’s Biggest Paving Slab” from last year, sounding stunning stripped back in the packed record store. The show kicked off with opening song from the album, “Albatross”, a beautiful showcase of singer Lily Fontaine’s vocals and song writing, and talents of band members Lewis Whiting, Douglas Frost and Nicholas Eden.

The band had time for a chat and signing with the audience after the show, before rushing off to London for a guest DJ set celebrating their album release at midnight that evening.

It was a superb show, the band’s northern charm endearing them to the crowd, and the album is a superb listen, receiving rave reviews. The attention is well-deserved. English Teacher are ones to watch.
