We all go through bad times, no matter how significant, how trivial. Even if it’s just having a horrible day, there is always a way to move forward. What can we learn from what we’re going through? How do we grow from the experience? These are questions that Christina Martin has asked herself, and her answers come through on her upcoming album, Storm. Christina has showcased the weight of the album through previous releases like “Stay With Me,” “In Control,” and “Little Princess,” but she has also presented her resilience. On her next single “Storm,” Christina keeps going, knowing that she can use her circumstances to her own advantage.
A refined, uplifting anthem, “Storm” captures an optimistic spirit that is sometimes needed to rise above a challenge. It starts out as a piano ballad, the somber chords creating a reflective atmosphere. Christina’s open and assured vocals take center stage, her tone carefully guiding the music along. Stirring strings and guitar then come into play, transforming the ballad into a dynamic stadium-worthy performance. The lively production and repeating line of “Storm, thank you for coming along” indicate that this is a song of appreciation – not sorrow. Christina has figured out a way to interpret the storm as a necessary event, for without it, she may not be able to “appreciate the view” she has today.
In the video below, director Matt Charlton captures Christina’s story in a live setting. We watch as Christina rehearses for a show at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax, dressed in casual clothes and performing with her band members. As the song fills out, the video changes from black and white to color, reflecting Christina’s change in perspective in the song. Matt shares,
“I wanted to make something that explores how much time, thought, and effort Christina puts into her music. I think she’s really an outstanding artist, but it’s also inspiring to see all the work she does to make that art come to life. This video was inspired by seeing her go through that process for her amazing new album.”
