Recent News: Will play several festival shows and tour dates over the next month before releasing her new album EURO-COUNTRY on August 29.
One of Ireland’s most prominent up-and-coming stars, CMAT has made headway in her country’s national music scene through her emotive, passionate and charming songwriting. Through her eclectic blend of pop, folk and country, Irish singer-songwriter CMAT will continue to rise in both local and international music scenes with the release of her third LP EURO-COUNTRY, out August 29.
Following the album’s release, CMAT will embark on the EURO-COUNTRY Tour, making her way across North America, Europe and the U.K. this fall. However, ahead of the album and its coinciding tour, the singer will make several festival appearances before supporting Sam Fender on select dates of his People Watching Tour. CMAT will perform at Wide Awake Festival, Neighbourhood Weekender and Primavera Sound before supporting Fender on four U.K. tour dates this June.
From a young age, CMAT — born Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson — longed to pursue music. After dropping out of college to study songwriting, CMAT soon moved to England to chase a career in music, performing in a duo called Bad Sea with her then-boyfriend. Describing this relationship as very toxic, CMAT soon put her music career on hold. That is, until a run-in with Charli XCX.
After attending an in-person listening session at a London studio with the Brat songwriter, Charli XCX encouraged CMAT to take on a reimagined approach to her artistry. CMAT soon left her boyfriend, returning to Ireland and self-releasing her music online. After gaining significant attention from BBC Radio, the singer soon released her debut album, If My Wife New I’d Be Dead, in 2022. The album immediately received massive praise, and later rose to the number one spot on the Irish Albums Chart. Her sophomore album Crazymad, for Me came out the following year, also earning the number one spot on the Irish Albums Chart.
Now, CMAT is gearing up for the release of her third-full length studio album, which will undoubtedly continue the singer-songwriter’s successful musical run. Aptly named Euro-Country, CMAT says her album is named not just after the style of music she makes, but also addresses the isolation that capitalist rule enforces. Unafraid to write about more melancholy or personal themes, CMAT incorporates a charming catharsis into her work, resulting in an artistry that is as healing as it is humorous and inspiring. Through her passionate vocal prowess and borderline genreless musicality, CMAT is not just Ireland’s favorite rising pop star — she is also a voice for women, femmes and queer members of the music scene.
