In addition to iconic Aerosmith members Steven Tyler and Joe Perry as well as Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, punk rock singer YUNGBLUD has been added to the roster for Ozzy Osbourne‘s tribute performance. It is scheduled to take place this Sunday night at the MTV VMAs.
Born Dominic Harrison, YUNGBLUD has described the late Black Sabbath frontman as his “North Star for everything.” Ozzy had passed his own torch to the England native; he viewed YUNGBLUD as a younger version of himself. He saw the potential in him for years and believed he would grow to be the next big thing. In March of 2022, both Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne appeared in YUNGBLUD’s music video for his song “The Funeral.”
Geezer Butler, Black Sabbath’s bassist, stopped by YUNGBLUD’s Salt Lake City show and gave him great praise online: “Best show I’ve seen in years- great songs, loadsa fun, brilliant band, and of course the incredible @yungblud.” The rock icons are shining a spotlight on the young star, bringing him to the mainstream frontline; soon after he performed his rendition of “Changes” at the Black Sabbath Farewell show in Birmingham, the US leg of his Idols World Tour sold out.
The MTV Video Music Awards will be streaming this Sunday, Sept. 7 on CBS and MTV at 8pm EST in the US. For UK watchers, it will be on Comedy Central and MTV at 9pm the following night, Sept. 8.
