Wipe those tears and dial the phone: Zinadelphia releases the song to pick you up when you’re down in “Call Up Nancy”

Date:

Philadelphia-based musician Zinadelphia debuted her latest single, “Call Up Nancy,” a jazzy anthem that urges listeners to turn to music and their best friends when times get tough.

The lovechild of Amy Winehouse, Gloria Gaynor, and Tammi Terrell, Zinadelphia is known for her harmonious blend of jazz, funk, Motown, and soul. “Call Up Nancy” is the perfect example of the singer-songwriter’s strength.

While it’s easy to be frustrated with someone testing your nerves over and over again, to overanalyze a guy’s every stupid word, and to drive yourself mad over someone who won’t give you the time of day, “Call Up Nancy” encourages the girlies to turn to their friends for words of encouragement. Play some music, surround yourself with uplifting voices, and wipe those tears!

“I call up Nancy (I call) / Any hour, day or night / When the boys get nasty (That girl) / Knows how to make it right / I do the listenin’, she does the talkin’ / When he acts up, I get to walkin’ / I don’t get angry / I just get Nancy on the phone”

Zinadelphia celebrated the single’s release on social media, sharing, “This song is an ode to THE GIRLS, your favorite artists. When shit hits the fan , when he doesnt respond , when you get lonely, you just call up the girls. Aka you put on your favorite records and DANCE. Or sing or laugh or cry. It always does the trick. The girls heal all!!!! I wrote this about the girl I found myself calling the most – @nancysinatra”.

While “Call Up Nancy” may be dedicated to “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” singer Nancy Sinatra by name, Zinadelphia shared that this single is meant to draw her listeners to lean into whatever music allows them to be free, to forget the guy that mistreated them, and to dance their worries away:

I love this song with all of me. An ode to the GIRLS and an ode to you, whoever your Nancy may be!!! I’m so excited to keep showing you the new world I’ve been living in for the past year. To new things.

“Call Up Nancy” follows Zinadelphia’s single “The Seamstress” and her dreamy Gloria Gaynor cover “I Will Survive,” which debuted earlier this year following her 2024 EP The Magazine.

Zinadelphia is currently on her North American headline tour, set to conclude in Athens, Georgia, on Tuesday, September 30, before embarking on a short tour of Texas alongside indie-pop musician Chezile in early October. Remaining tickets are available here

She is also performing on day three of the annual All Things Go music festival in Columbia, Maryland, on Saturday, September 27, alongside alternative music favorites Lucy Dacus, Clairo, and Faye Webster.
