Alt-rock band The Runarounds are focused on holding onto positivity after they say those feelings keep fading away. Over the last several years, the five-piece band has garnered a large following — eventually skyrocketing into millions of fans after their Amazon Prime Video series, The Runarounds, debuted this year.
The band is comprised of Axel Ellis (guitar/vocals), Jesse Golliher (bass/vocals), Jeremy Yun (lead guitar), William Lipton (guitar/vocals) and Zende Murdock (drums). Their newest single, “Chasing The Good Times,” captures the struggle to stay grounded while pursuing success.
With over 350,000 monthly Spotify listeners and a recently sold-out headlining tour, The Minivan Tour, The Runarounds are back — as unfiltered, heartfelt and honest as ever before. On the new track, they sing, “We keep chasing the good times away.”
The song opens with the band trying to identify what they’re feeling. They want clarity and a sense of meaning, but it keeps slipping away. The band wants joy so badly that they overthink it, making the joy disappear. The song captures the idea that if you’re too focused on the chase, you miss the moment. Just like life, relationships too move too fast and they realize how easily they can lose good moments trying to hold onto them when they were meant to fade away.
“Joy is fleeting. What’s that Ferris Bueller quote? ‘Life moves [quickly]; if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it.’ That’s the feeling we hoped to convey with ‘Chasing The Good Times,’ Ellis says. “It’s about the never-ending pursuit of happiness and how it could pass you by if you’re looking too hard for it. Next time you find yourself dancing in the dark, try to soak it in as much as you can; it doesn’t get much better than that. We were honored to be able to write this one with our friend Brad Shultz of Cage the Elephant, one of our collective long-time heroes.”
