The Japanese House returns with the beguiling “Boyhood”

After a nearly-three year wait since their last release, The Japanese House has returned with the emotive, beguiling track “Boyhood” and promises of a new era on the way.

“Boyhood” is a bubbling, masterwork of synth-pop that features Amber Bain’s keen ear for production alongside some of the most honest lyricism of her career. As the song works its way towards a crescendo, Bain proclaims in the chorus  “I could have been somebody who / You wanted to have around to hold / I should have jumped when you told me to / I wanna change but it’s nothing new / And if I grow I’m gonna get so old / Will you hold me like you always do?”. The song calls back to the lyricism and idealism of her debut, Good at Falling, while eagerly peering forward at what’s to come. Watch the music video directed by Max Barnett below:
