Aussie indie darlings Teenage Dads have just released their latest single, “Stay Between Us.” This track is their first new release in almost a year since their sophomore album Majordomo.
Just because they haven’t released new music in a while doesn’t mean they’ve been slacking off. After releasing Majordomo in August of last year, the band hit the ground running, joining Dayglow on the second half of his US tour in November, which continued through the end of the year. Following that, they embarked on a North American tour of their own in spring of 2025. Now, they are set to begin a European tour this fall.
“Stay Between Us” was made available Thursday morning via the band’s YouTube channel, ahead of its worldwide release on Friday, August 8th. “Stay Between Us” stands in stark contrast to the band’s previous singles off Majordomo, such as the Triple J Hot 200 track “Boyfriend” and the fan-favorite “Weaponz,” to name a few. All of the singles showcase the band’s now signature enthusiastic and high-energy production.
The track is noticeably more mellow and subdued than the majority of their discography, which surprised many listeners, myself included. However, this new avenue proved to be delightful. Acoustic guitars, light drums, and piano replace the striking electric guitars, synths, and animated lyrics that fans come to expect from the band. The charming acoustic guitar instrumentals allow lead singer Jordan Finely’s vocals and lyrics to take the forefront.
Lyrically, the track is a delightful love song, emphasizing that love doesn’t need to be extravagant to be genuine and meaningful. It can be as simple as “You’re the something good I think about / when the world keeps sinking further down.”
This stylistic shift is likely not a permanent change for the band, but rather an exploration of new musical opportunities. Nevertheless, fans are eagerly awaiting what’s next for them.
When asked for additional comment on their Discord live session regarding the song’s release, this is what Jordy had to say:

So, to fulfill his wishes, it’s “bad!”
