In 2021, Sydney Sprague let the world in on her overthinking ways when she released her debut album, maybe i will see you at the end of the world. Its ten songs contained wit, humor, and a “trying my best” relatability that won over the masses. In the years since, Sydney has been able to share these songs while on tour with bands like Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eat World, and The Front Bottoms, to name a few. She has also continued to build up a devoted fanbase with releases like her sophomore album, somebody in hell loves you. Her experiences with touring and sharing her music with the world over the years have inspired her upcoming album, Peak Experience, which will be released on September 26. Sydney has already given fans a preview with “Fair Field,” “As Scared As Can Be,” and “Flat Circle,” all taken from the album. Now, she continues to introduce fans to the album’s coming-of-age themes with her latest single “Long Island.”
On “Long Island,” Sydney does some life contemplation over a glass of long island iced tea. The song is fleeting yet full of meaning, tapping into those vulnerable and unsure moments that we may experience from time to time. Over the enchanting riffs and quiet acoustic guitar strumming, Sydney sings, “Can I get another long island? / I really have such miserable timing / Half a mind to follow you home / But I won’t.” Will the sips lead her to safety?
Telling us about “Long Island,” Sydney shares that it comes from
“When you have to choose between connection and self-preservation because the truth is too messy or just too impossible to communicate. It’s a desperate plea for a moment of relief from the horrors. It’s a genuine request for another long island iced tea.”
In the fall, Syndney will be hitting the road. First, she will support The Format on September 27 at the Arizona State Fair. As this is a special reunion show for the band, it is already sold out. Next, Sydney will venture out on her own headline tour for Peak Experience. Gabrielle Grace will open for her as the tour makes its way across the US. It kicks off in Oklahoma City on October 24 and will conclude in Austin on November 22. Tickets and the full list of dates can be found here.
