Sleep Token’s rise has been anything but ordinary, and their opening night of their Even in Arcadia tour at the Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia, proved just how far they’ve come. The first stop of their 18 stop long tour was a ceremony, that was haunting, heavy, and beautifully transcendent.

From the moment the lights dropped and rose petals fell from the ceiling as the Eden Rune was painted on the curtain, the crowd fell into a trance. As soon as the curtain dropped at the end of “Look to Windward”, the stage showcased shifting colors, deep blues, blood reds, and ethereal whites, as Vessel emerged, the faceless enigma lead the anonymous masked collective into the opening notes and controlled the stage and the audience until the very end. Gas South Arena, packed to capacity, was transformed into a cathedral where thousands had gathered to worship at the altar of sound.

The setlist was expertly crafted, as it leaned heavily into material from Take Me Back to Eden and Even in Arcadia, with reworked arrangements that gave even the most familiar songs new weight. In all, the band played a 15-song set that included two debuts from Even In Arcadia.

Visually, the production was massive and jaw-dropping. Towering LED screens displayed abstract visuals, crumbling ruins were displayed during interludes, tying into the themes of rebirth and transcendence. The whole stage was a sight to behold, towering above the crowd with II mounted on a cliff to house their massive drumkit, above that to the left was an overlook that made home to the trio of chorus singers that filled in the backing ambience for Vessel’s voice and IV’s gutturals.

For an opening night, everything felt razor-sharp and rehearsed to perfection. The band moved as a single unit and the sound mix was excellent and dialed in to fill the entire arena. The packed house was deeply immersive, expressive and loud, letting the experience wash over them which created one of the best audience experiences you can see at a show today.

By the end, after a haunting rendition of “Infinite Baths” in its live debut, Vessel gave only the slightest bow before vanishing back into shadow. No encore, no words, just silence and on stage and Peter Gabriel’s “Book of Love” playing in the background as the crowd delivered a roaring ovation that seemed to last minutes.

On top of the performance inside, the merch lines were long and fans were eager to get their hands on the tour merch (outside of what was offered at the Arcadia Emporium the two days leading up to the event). Fans on Reddit shared that within moments merch within the venue was sold out with one reddit user sharing “The tour shirt sold out in all sizes but small and medium before the show even started from what I heard… Lines were crazy long when we got to the venue!”
