One Hundred Moons have returned with “Ear to Ear,” a darkly hypnotic single from their upcoming album Black Avalanche. The track is built on swirling layers of guitar and spectral vocals that drift through the mix like echoes in an abandoned hall. There’s an eerie beauty at play, where minor chords bend and shift into dissonance, creating something equal parts unsettling and magnetic.
Rather than relying on conventional hooks, “Ear to Ear” thrives in mood and atmosphere. Guitars shimmer and crackle, bass lines rumble beneath, and the vocals slip in like a secret being whispered. By the end, the song leaves a phantom trace in the listener’s mind, a resonance that feels both heavy and strangely comforting.
Formed in Toronto, One Hundred Moons balance shoegaze textures with the grit of 90s alt-rock and the sweeping emotion of post-rock. The band—Collin Young, Jen Vella, Justin Hunt, Matt Laplante, and NJ Borreta—create music that feels immersive and cinematic, with influences ranging from My Bloody Valentine to Radiohead. Their sound is rooted in longing and transformation, and “Ear to Ear” captures that balance of fragility and force.
The single arrives in the middle of a fall tour that began September 19 in Waterloo and runs through Oshawa, Niagara, Toronto, Hamilton, and Windsor. Known for turning their dense studio recordings into sprawling live experiences, One Hundred Moons promise to make each show an exploration of light, shadow, and sound.
“Ear to Ear” is a glimpse into what Black Avalanche is shaping up to be: a record that doesn’t just sit in the background but insists on being felt, pulling listeners into its haunted, dreamlike world.
