Savannah Pope is a Los Angeles based artist who puts her own dark spin on pop. Crafting gothic vignettes that unfold over themes of betrayal, passion, and intense romance, Pope builds an alluring world around her music. Her single “Terrible Thing” is written about the dangers of desire. It chronicles a prolonged infatuation that is just out of reach. Pope navigates the haze of uncertainty amidst a fantasy of forbidden love.
“Terrible Thing” entices the ear with haunting operatic harmonies, soul-stirring percussion, and a cathartic hook at the heart of the track. She sings, “Why would you do such a terrible, terrible thing / But, don’t stop please.” Pope captures the torturous nature of a love that only exists in secret. “Terrible Thing” channels the dark and mysterious depths of romance into a baroque-inspired unearthing of her deepest desires.
“Terrible Thing” is set to be a part of Pope’s forthcoming EP. Revealing more on her upcoming project, Pope confides, “These are the kinds of things you can’t just say out loud. You need a song to say them.” Pope is preparing to support Andy Bell (Erasure) on a US tour. “Terrible Thing” is a powerful new chapter for Pope as she continues to develop her dark pop persona.
