Rex Orange County announces upcoming album ‘The Alexander Technique’ and shares two new songs

Date:

Multi-instrumentalist Rex Orange County, whose real name is Alexander James O’Connor, has announced his upcoming fifth studio album, The Alexander Technique. The album is scheduled to be released on Sept. 6 through RCA Records/Sony Music Entertainment.

The singer-songwriter made his debut at age 16 with his first album, Bcos U Will Never Be Free (2015). Following the success of platinum-certified hit singles “Sunflower” and “Best Friend,” and his album Apricot Princess (2017), Rex signed with RCA. He subsequently released Pony (2019) and Who Cares? (2022). Since Who Cares?, which debuted at No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, Rex is now excited to release his fifth record, The Alexander Technique, after first teasing it one week prior on X.

The album’s first two songs on the album have been released today: “Alexander” and “Guitar Song”.

“Alexander” is a piano-driven track where Rex addresses his personal struggles and life experiences. In the song, he sings about battling chronic back pain and the realization that it may stem from deeper emotional issues, exploring themes of both physical and emotional pain. Showcasing his musical evolution through introspective lyrics and a genre-blending style, Rex continues his self-reflection in “Guitar Song.” He delves into past feelings of teenage insecurity and confusion, ultimately coming to terms with himself as he ages while searching for peace.

Rex spoke about the forthcoming record in a statement:

“I’ve made a lot of love songs over the years, and I feel as though this is the first time I’m trying to make a project about everything in life. In my mind, it’s exactly what I’ve always wanted to make.”
