With “Closer Than Your Shadow,” Reigns and Waives give us an empowering anthem about devotion and loyalty. Against the fluid beats and bright chords set by Waives, Reigns sings, “All the cracks in the pavement sucking you in / Nothing to run to, never gonna win” before boldly declaring, “I’m not giving up! / Now, I got this far” and “I’m not walking away from you!” in the choruses. “I work loads with Dee Adam [songwriter, producer, music exec, and founder of She Wears The Crown Records], and she played this one to me when we first started writing together. I instantly fell in love with it, and it stayed with me for years. When Waives asked if I’d like to collaborate again, it was a no-brainer. I remembered this tune and asked if they fancied sprinkling some Waives fairy dust on it. As soon as we started playing around with it, I knew—this was the one.”
