Polartropica and Gilbert Louie Ray are an unexpected pair who collide over a serendipitous symphony on their surrealist new single, “Shiny Things”. Ray lends his influence as an Americana artist to the track with evocative notes of banjo and acoustic guitar. “Shiny Things” is about learning to surrender when you fall out of love with someone rather than forcing things to stay the same.
“Shiny Things” is a diamond in the rough with mesmerizing notes of piano, beachy riffs of electric guitar, and effervescent vocals from Polartropica. The song was inspired by John Denver, The Everly Brothers, and The Beach Boys. The music video for “Shiny Things” captures an intense flame that slowly burns out over an enchanting desert backdrop. Polartropica learns to navigate the wild on her own after accepting the fate of her heartbreak.
Revealing more on her single, Polartropica confides, “This song is about eventually finding it in your heart to learn and grow from all the hard lessons and finally let go with a sense of understanding and acceptance, which is a journey in itself, and coming back home to yourself with love and forgiveness.”
Polartropica is a Los Angeles based artist who has previously held the title of LA Weekly’s Best Indie Pop Band. She is a recent inductee of the Recording Academy. Her music continues to defy the limits of genre, especially so with her new abstract opus “Shiny Things”.
