Oh Bummer! Releases Mysterious New Track “The Bird and the Dog”

Date:

Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Oh Bummer! (Tanner Houghton) has just released his upbeat new single “The Bird and the Dog”. The song has an alt-hip-hop indie-pop-rock vibe and is the third offering from his EP to be released later this year.

Produced by The KickDrums, “The Bird and the Dog” also features a guest verse from Blimes of the hip-hop duo Blimes & Gab along with background vocals by Houghton’s sister. The song certainly has a lot going on, and we are here for it.

The somewhat mysterious track grapples with the potential end of a relationship, with the lyric “doesn’t feel right to me anymore” being repeated throughout. Oh Bummer! elaborates on this sentiment:

“‘The Bird and the Dog’ dives into previous relationship dynamics. Being lied to, being the liar, questioning what ‘I love you’ really means to each other. Being with someone for so long you can’t see that you’re holding each other back from learning, growing, and doing what you were meant to do.”

Prominent horns and piano give the song a jazzy feel, while Oh Bummer!’s subtle vocals complement the instrumental energy. The haunting chorus adds a sultry and emotional touch that listeners will love. The track’s chaotic nature is a signature element across Oh Bummer!’s catalogue, with Houghton saying his songs are “a conglomeration of my manic ADHD thoughts – the diary of an overthinker”. You can listen here.

Oh Bummer!’s newest EP will be out via If This Then Records later this year, and you can catch him playing more shows this fall in support of the new record.
