Chicano singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Obed Padilla is back with his newest single “Rainforest,” out now via Big Family Music.
“Rainforest” is a warm, fluid, and quietly uplifting track that gives us a taste of what to expect on Padilla’s upcoming EP Rodeo Clown. The new EP is set to release early in the summer and signals an evolution in Obed’s sound.
Obed shares the story behind “Rainforest,” stating:
“They say there are 5 stages of grief and ‘Rainforest’ represents acceptance. ‘Rodeo clown’ as a whole is the 6th stage of grief- being late to the funeral and feeling like the clown because everyone else has already moved on from things I never dealt with. ‘Rainforest’ is a song about trying to move on, not being able to, and sitting in the present and learning to be ok with that.”
The song begins with a stripped-back, rhythmic foundation before it unfolds into a percussion-led arrangement sustained by layered vocals. The instrumentation of “Rainforest” serves as a relaxed and atmospheric backdrop for Obed’s passionate vocals as the track continues on.
In the EP Rodeo Clown, Obed explores the stages of grief following the end of a relationship, with each track focusing on a different part of the experience.
