Nothing But a Nightmare takes on relationship conflicts in “Start A Fight”

Date:

Alternative rock band Nothing But a Nightmare leans on 2000’s punk in their latest single, “Start A Fight.” The track is part of their newest album, The Salvation, a record that explores feelings of personal pain and loss through a contrasting happy sound.

“Start A Fight” kicks off with a catchy bass line that also incorporates video game sound effects before it goes into a full blown pop punk sound. The song is reminiscent of Y2K’s teen angst, but has a deeper undertone in the writing, telling the story of an ongoing relationship conflict. The track’s upbeat feel intertwines with the aggressive singing, allowing the listener to connect with the story and scream at the top of their lungs at the same time.

As the band switches gears for their third album, the sound moves in a heavier direction, with punk’s raw edge at the forefront of the track. It’s a catchy tune that moves away from the difficult feelings of frustration in the midst of a couple’s argument, and manages to turn into a fun experience and coping mechanism.
