Nina June - "Savannah"

Pop artist Nina June from Amsterdam has released her newest single “Savannah.”

June’s upcoming EP Paradigm is set to debut on March 1 and features collaborations with Old Sea Brigade, Emily James and more.

“Once, in another chapter of my life, I was left for another woman,” June said. “Recently I realized how much this woman, whom I have never met to this day, changed the course of my life. This song is my lyrical encounter with her, but above all it’s a celebration of resilience.”

Following the birth of her son, she found herself in a much different stage in her life. The narrative richness of “Savannah” serves as a staple for the track, and June perceives the song as an alternative reality to Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.” In “Savannah,” the protagonist sings to the woman who took away her lover and shapes the course of her life.

June repeatedly asks about Savannah’s well-being, which conveys a mix of emotions, including heartbreak and concern. She sings, “Did you see it coming / Ten thousand warnings / Savannah, how are you? / You knew / The rain was pouring / The skies were calling your name / Savannah, how are you?”

Throughout the alternative track with hints of country-pop and folk, there is a sense of public exposure and the falling out in a relationship. June makes her mark, shedding light on a part of herself she has hidden for some time.
