Hailing from The Netherlands, Dutch artist philine shares the tenderness of rediscovery and escaping a dreamlike fantasy in her new single “waste a life.” It’s the final track of her EP the truth of living in reality, a special EP that explores the narrative mirror to her second EP, the side-effects of living in a fantasy (2024), shifting from escapism and self-imposed illusions to confronting raw, unfiltered reality. The new EP is a collection of songs where clarity, discomfort, and emotional reckoning take center stage. “waste a life” specifically is seen as a realization that fear has held the artist back for too long:
“i WAS 23, STILL SCARED OF SO MANY THINGS IN LIFE and it was really starting to hold me back. i was constantly feeding into all of my fears and felt like i was missing out on so much of the good stuff in my life. writing this song felt like a turning point, i don’t want to waste a life like that.”
Speaking more on her overall creative process while working on the EP, she says:
“During the writing process, i spent a lot of time inside of my brain. i have a huge imagination, and i’m a big over-thinker. i tend to live in fantasy more than reality…but the thing with a story is, it’s not reality, it’s a story. and it keeps you from living in actual reality. when that happens, or when reality hits my face, i isolate myself and become very absent to the outside world.”
