Nick Folwarczny questions the “Price of Believing” on new single from upcoming EP, ‘Who Was I’

Date:

Back in February, Columbus-based singer-songwriter and producer Nick Folwarczny came to terms with a toxic relationship. He released “Convenience Fees,” a cathartic indie-folk track that touched on the drama and unhappiness that Nick experienced. It followed in the style of previous singles “Sweat” and “Life’s Worth Living,” as it showcased Nick’s relatable coming-of-age sound and honest songwriting skills. It also served as the perfect lead single from his upcoming debut EP, Who Was I, a project that will dive into the diverse emotions that Nick experiences both inside and outside of relationships. We are due to get the full project this fall, so before we do, Nick gives us the EP’s second single, “Price of Believing.”

Bound to be your next breakup folk-pop jam, “Price of Believing” walks us through an unexpected end of events. The production is acoustic guitar-led but has an open and forward-moving vibe. Meanwhile, Nick earnestly asks, “How was I supposed to know everything you wouldn’t tell me?” and “How was I supposed to know everything that you were feeling?” Listeners can tell that he is confused and disappointed, which also comes through elsewhere in lines like, “If you were planning on leaving, then you could’ve said so / It would’ve saved a lot of time, it would’ve saved a lot of hope.” You can check it out below.

About the release, Nick shares,

“I began working on ‘Price of Believing’ after experiencing a sudden break-up that I hadn’t really seen coming, which left me confused and without answers to a lot of the questions I had. Because of this, I knew I wanted the song structure to feel as dynamic as possible, so I stripped back production a little bit, hoping to let my lyricism shine. The wordy verses are my way of representing my racing thoughts from all the affliction I had felt, while keeping a melodic, more open chorus acts as a final plea when you know something is ending.”

“Price of Believing” is out now via Cloverdale Records. You can listen to it on platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music.

Nick’s upcoming debut EP, Who Was I, is scheduled for release this fall.
