A familiar yet emerging voice is back with its indie-rock debut. Fleshwater’s lead vocalist Marisa “Mirsy” Shirar, Ethel Cain’s guitarist Dakota Floeter, and Bad Suns’ drummer Miles Morris join forces in an indie-rock project named Bedelia.
As of last Thursday, the talented trio from The Valley (aka northern Los Angeles) made their debut with their newest single “Tightrope”. It’s a 3-minute celestial, energetic track filled with euphoric guitar riffs and bright vocals.
Wrapped in bliss, “Tightrope” symbolizes reflection when it comes to partnership — going in-depth on how self-sabotage can affect a union so devotional.
Guitarist Miles Morris further describes the meaning of the song in an article with Northern Transmissions:
“Lyrically this song is about reflecting on your own shortcomings within a relationship. It’s about not choosing love. When we’re young and our main example of love is inextricably linked to pain, it can result in us subconsciously (or consciously) sabotaging our adult relationships. Sometimes the fear is not that it won’t work out, but that somehow it will.”
Accompanying their single debut, Bedelia released the “Tightrope” music video. Directed by Isaac Westberg and cinematographer Jack Duffy, viewers see a screen split in two of the band members performing their song. Almost like being transported back in time to ’90s shoegaze, Bedelia’s introductory visual aesthetic not only feels nostalgic, but also like a daydream you’ll never want to wake up from.
To bring the band to life, Miles connected with childhood friend Marisa in hopes of creating music together. This vision quickly became reality when Dakota joined, completing the trifecta that would be Bedelia. Whether you’re familiar with an individual member or all three, music lovers are looking forward to the next chapter of Bedelia’s story.
