LA-based grit-pop trio ill peach is back with their newest single “MOLLY’S NOT A FRIEND.”
The new track personifies MDMA into a character that represents a party girl, with the realization that anything that promises escape from reality can turn on you. It also touches on the fact that you cannot outrun grief when it hits. Frontwoman Jess Corazza speaks candidly about what led her to write the song, sharing:
“‘Molly’s Not a Friend’ came out of a night I thought might numb something in me. I went to this party, still deep in grief after my dad passed, and decided to take MDMA for the first time in a long time. It backfired immediately. I got so sick I spent most of the night on a curb, throwing up, completely outside of myself.”
The gloomy track makes listeners feel like they are at a party meeting the “Molly” character, and subsequently becoming disoriented after taking MDMA. Corazza explains the experience even further, stating:
“But the strangest part wasn’t even the physical spiral—it was how hyper-aware I became. I felt like I was listening in on reality in the worst way. Snippets of conversations, people brushing past me, laughter that felt distorted—it was not fun.”
