Bleachers ground their nostalgia in real detail on “the van”

Bleachers have released their brand new single “the van,” off their upcoming album everyone for ten minutes, out May 22 via Dirty Hit.

The dreamy track opens with an instrumental that feels almost cinematic, like the start of a 1950s film, before easing into an airy, angelic introduction. From there, the song locks into something more grounded. It’s fully autobiographical, with Jack Antonoff retracing his early days on the road, traveling to gigs in a van and pulling meaning from the smallest details.

“I pulled into a Wawa in Philly in 2000 / Blue Magic coming from the speaker at the gas pump / All Jersey kids, we never learn to pump gas / So we sat there with the soundtrack,” he sings, sketching out a sharply defined sense of time and place. The repeated line, “I just don’t wanna be lonely,”—which Antonoff has said is a sample—threads through the track, acting less as a dramatic centerpiece and more as a constant undercurrent.

The band first debuted “the van” last month during an intimate pop-up show at Union Pool in Brooklyn, offering an early preview of the album’s reflective core.

On “the van,” Bleachers refine a sound they’ve spent years building—nostalgia that feels active rather than indulgent, specific without being insular. It’s a song that understands exactly what it’s doing, and more importantly, why it matters.
