Alec Benjamin’s 7.5 year buildup for “The Knife In My Back” did not disappoint

Date:

Multi-platinum singer Alec Benjamin has released his latest single, “The Knife In My Back,” with his fans showing up and showing out with their support.

The Arizona native first released the track as a demo in January of 2018, over 7.5 years ago. The people have spoken, and they were consistent; they’ve wanted the song since day one.

Benjamin first rose to fame with the release of his single “Let Me Down Slowly,” which quickly spread far and wide online. It went 4-times certified Platinum by the RIAA, the music video earning him over 660 million YouTube views. It has also garnered over 2 billion Spotify streams since its release in 2018.

“The Knife In My Back” definitely takes fans back to that time with the nostalgic rhythm and cool flow combined with aching lyrics. Benjamin wrote this song about his unexpected friendship breakup; it was a very treasured relationship that ended in betrayal. He takes the listeners through that heavy emotion as he realizes what has happened: “Pull your knife out of my back / Your heart’s gone black / I was just surprised at how you turned on me so fast.”

Benjamin collaborated with producer Sam de Jong, who is known for his iconic work with Gracie Abrams, P!nk, Noah Kahan, Little Mix, and more.

“The Knife In My Back” is out now on all streaming platforms.
