Alternative solo artist Douglas Katula releases his newest single “AFRAID” prior to his latest EP dropping. The Columbus-based artist, drawing inspirations aesthetically and musically from artists such as Chase Atlantic, The 1975, and The Neighbourhood, the young star continues to grab audiences’ attention with intricately crafted songs.
“AFRAID” is no exception to this particular craftsmanship, with a laidback, chill vibe embracing themes of destructive heartbreak and the addictiveness that pain can have. This is best seen in the lyrics, “Now I’ve been thinking / how you”ll forget me / ’cause we’re only happy / when we can’t feel our bodies / And I’ve been afraid of / the way that you’re speaking / We’re chasing the same high / we’re chasing a feeling.”
“AFRAID” is the second track off of Katula’s debut EP titled Screwtape, consisting of six total songs, including pre-released singles “SOBER,” and “TOURNIQUET,” alongside three new songs: “MARTYRS (1974,)” “DRIVE (TREPAS,)” and lastly “SCREWTAPE,” with its music video posted on Katula’s Youtube channel.
Outside of being a solo artist, Douglas is also a member of the alt-rock group Outsider Heart, consisting of members Kovy (guitar and vocals), Jeef (guitar), Jonah (bass), and Jaxson (drums).
