Melodic Music Monday: September 22

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

Miley Cyrus, Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood, “Secrets” – Only an icon such as Cyrus could finesse a collaboration with some of the most influential voices in music. “Secrets” features contributions from Lindsey Buckingham (guitar) and Mick Fleetwood (drums), former Fleetwood Mac members. The ballad was written as a “peace offering” to her father, Billy Ray Cyrus. Sometimes family can get a little messy, but this song resonates because it captures the beauty of allowing loved ones to hold their secrets while still offering them unconditional love and understanding.

– Reagan Denning

——

Estella Dawn, “Reckless” – The New Zealand native is reflecting on betrayal and late-night fights, presented in her honestly raw lyrics. She confronts the heartbreaking reality of someone you once trusted now feeling like a stranger. She lays down the gut-punching line “I think we’re even, babe”, solidifying the fact that neither partner will walk away unharmed.

– Gabi Cuevas

——

Waterparks, “IF LYRICS WERE CONFIDENTIAL” – If there’s one thing Waterparks have become known for, it’s their brutal honesty and no-tolerance policy for toxicity. After premiering the first half of the new single at Reading and Leeds Festival last month, the Houston trio has finally released the highly-anticipated “IF LYRICS WERE CONFIDENTIAL.” The track is the second single from the band’s new era after releasing their explosive return with “RED GUITAR” in July.

– Amber Bintliff

——

Thomas Day, “sore throat”Thomas Day captures the kind of heartbreak that doesn’t arrive all at once, but instead seeps in slowly on his latest indie pop release, “sore throat.” Day reminisces on late-night conversations, inside jokes, and dreams built together, only to realize those things now live solely in his memory.
