Melodic Music Monday: September 15

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

Milky Chance, “Camouflage” – Indie-rock band Milky Chance released the third rendition of their mixtape series, Trip Tape III, featuring 11 tracks of covers, previously released songs, and a new tropical single, “Camouflage.” The German duo is known for their distinct folktronica sound, most notably for their hit songs “Stolen Dance” and “Flash Junk Mind,” which solidified their top spot amongst the alternative-indie crowd in the 2010s.

– Emily McCormack

——

Djo, “Carry The Name” – First single “Carry The Name” is a melancholic track that explores the somber feeling of getting out of a relationship, still carrying that person near to one’s heart and seeing them in everything they do. It’s a brief, sweet-sounding blend of The Beatles, Declan McKenna, and Arctic Monkeys circa Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.

– Emily McCormack

——

Kali Uchis and Ravyn Lenae, “Cry About It!” – The introduction to the upcoming album, “Cry About It!” is a dreamy doo-wop-inspired song where Uchis and Lenae jump back and forth between English and Spanish. In the verses, Uchis seemingly sings (in Spanish) about an ex-lover’s current partner: “I know that it hurts you when you hear my name / I know that you hate me because of a man,” before adding, “I know that jealousy is killing you softly.”

– Germano Blanco

——

Nevertel and Sleep Theory, “Break The Silence” – The monumental collaboration between the Epitaph labelmates starts with an intense guitar riff right from the get-go. “Break The Silence” explores recognizing harmful patterns in a relationship and wanting to break free instead of continuing to enable toxic behavior. Kicking off with a heavy-hitting verse from Nevertel’s Raul Lopez, the song’s relentless energy is backed by its commanding instrumental, raw lyricism and dynamic vocal delivery.
