Melodic Music Monday: August 4

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

Sam Smith, “To Be Free”Sam Smith is stepping away from the stadium theatrics and back into the warm glow of vulnerability with his brand new single, “To Be Free.” Out now via Capitol Records, the acoustic ballad marks a deeply emotional pivot and a return to form, echoing the raw soulfulness of his debut In The Lonely Hour.

– Joseph Ine

——

Lola Young, “d£aler” – Rising artist Lola Young has released a new single titled “d£aler,” a bold track about the urge to run away from your problems rather than face them head-on. The song showcases her vocal control over a pop-infused, sample-based beat, offering a raw and emotional declaration of inner conflict.

– Taylor Swinton

——

Del Water Gap, “How To Live” – “How to Live” marks Del Water Gap’s first release of 2025. The indie-pop single allows listeners to step into the singer’s inner monologue. He questions morality and purpose while wrestling with the feeling of never quite measuring up: “I made a little money, but it’s never enough / She’ll tell me that she wants me but it still ain’t enough / My neighbors gettin’ naughty and it’s keeping me up / There’s no god above me and it’s fuckin’ me up.”

– Reagan Denning

——

Mac DeMarco, “Holy” – Indie musician Mac DeMarco is back, releasing his second single and video “Holy” from his upcoming album Guitar. Following last month’s song “Home”, which captured a soft and meditative vibe, “Holy” brings a similar yet entrancing energy, asking for a miracle to appear in his life.

– Kira Imani Andrews
