Melodic Music Monday: August 18

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

Glass Animals, “Vampire Bat” – “Vampire Bat” is a whimsical track that combines the usual sparkle of a Glass Animals song with marching band beats and cheerful synthesizer, with vocals much deeper than expected from the indie rock band. The tone contrasts from the more sinister narrative, which suggests a story of a toxic and greedy partner who tries to ignore or hide that they’re really sucking the life out of the singer. All of this is intertwined with the band’s love of pop-culture references, in this case highlighting Nintendo character Diddy Kong, and comic strips “Dennis the Menace” and “Calvin and Hobbes.”

– Emily McCormack

——

Huddy, “Fragile” – The song is filled with very powerful words from start to finish. Specifically, Huddy delivers a very hard-hitting chorus. “‘Cause I’m fragile, and I’m human / Don’t get scared when I start bleeding, it’s just the way I’m healing / I’m fragile and I’m human / Can’t hide from all my demons been searching for the reason I’m here”

– Allyson Franzo

——

The Happy Fits, “Do You See Me?” – This opening track sets a hopeful tone for the remainder of the album, as the instruments build up and the song flows from a chill, unplugged start into a strong, powerful conclusion. In just a few singles, the indie-rock band has already showcased a dynamic range of what’s to come, with the promise of even more twists and turns to keep their listeners hooked.

– Emily McCormack

——

EMME, “No Really, I’m Good” – On the upbeat, “No Really, I’m Good,” EMME isn’t afraid to show off just how good it feels to have moved on from a breakup with care-free, honest lyrics such as “You ruined the friendship and it feels like a blessing / It used to affect me but now I’m just sitting here pretty.” Filled with multi-layered bright acoustic guitars perfect for the summer and instantly catchy melodies, the song will have you singing along by the time it’s over.

– Germano Blanco
