Melodic Music Monday: August 11

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

The Jonas Brothers and Dean Lewis, “Loved You Better” – 2025 has been the year of perfect collaborations. The Jonas Brothers teamed up with Dean Lewis to curate a powerful piano ballad: “Loved You Better.” The partnership allows the New Jersey natives to showcase their growth as artists while seamlessly blending introspective songwriting with dreamy vocals.

– Reagan Denning

——

Reneé Rapp, “Good Girl” – The opening of “Good Girl” immediately brought Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana” to mind. This adorable, 80s-inspired track illustrates Rapp’s best intentions to be responsible, thwarted by the arrival of her dream girl: “Just have one drink and then leave like a grown up / Until you showed up… I had my hand on my keys, it was over / Until you showed up.” Fans of Cyndi Lauper and Pat Benetar will love this song.

– Jade Lassalle

——

mgk, “outlaw overture” – The 35-year-old debuted the opening track “outlaw overture” earlier this week on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, followed by a performance of “vampire diaries,” a single that has amassed over 10 million streams on Spotify. As if fans weren’t already buzzing in anticipation for the arrival of this record, the preview of “outlaw overture” only fueled the excitement.

– Reagan Denning

——

Ethel Cain, “Janie” – “Janie” opens the album softly and gently with a lethargic guitar riff that backs Ethel’s haunting voice. The title comes from the song it is about and who sets the scene: Janie, Ethel’s childhood best friend. Despite opening the album, it is devastating but encapsulates what it is like to have a best friend with a partner: “I know you love her / But she was my sister first.” It is followed by “Willoughby’s Theme,” an instrumental song similar to “Televangelism” from Preacher’s Daughter, that prepares listeners for the rest of the album.
